Dessert-sized Irish dance
A little taste of Irish step dancing: we’ll get to know the basic techniques, rhythms and steps that form this unique dance style.
Focus workshop, 2 lessons
Flavours of Irish dance
Four workshops aimed to explore different topics within Irish step dancing. Individual topics are: jumps and leaps in soft shoes, hornipe in heavy shoes, „non-typical“ rhythms in heavy shoes and show style dancing in both soft and heavy shoes. The workshops can be taken separately.
Focus workshop, 4 lessons
Choreographic Studio: céilí edition
This year the choreographic atelier will focus on the practical side of building a new ceili (or other social dance). Why do something like this at all?, Where to start?, What to look out for? and Can I do it at all? — if you have similar questions, come! We will explore the ins and outs of choreographing together.
Focus workshop, 1 lesson
Sean-nós dancing
We will learn a few steps in reel and jig times and their variations. We will explore how different distribution of weight on feet impacts technique, carriage and personal style.
Focus workshop, 2 lessons
Percussive dance improvisation
We will learn the basic steps that are a shared repertoire of various percussive dance styles from different regions. We will break down the basic improvisation method and build a personal vocabulary of steps to practice. We will explore the possibilities and creative potential of these steps as expressive, choreographic and musical means.
Focus workshop, 1 lesson
Footwork technique for traditional dancers
The workshop will focus on legwork and footwork exercises for all dancers dancing Irish, Scottish traditional dancing, or other styles of footwork based dance styles… We will use our knowledge of ballet and modern dance to improve motor skills and awareness of the function of the legs and feet.
Focus workshop, 1 lesson
Scottish Step Dancing
Let’s try the magic of Scottish step dancing together. It’s a traditional soft-shoe solo dance with roots in step dancing and distinctive ballet elements. The rather slower pace and emphasis on elegance of movement is friendly to beginners, and advanced dancers of all stripes will enjoy it as well.
Focus workshop, 1 lesson
SCD Medley — we are not afraid of rhythm changes
Did you know that Scottish country dancers are not afraid of changing the rhythm? Come and see how easy and effective it is! We’ll show you a medley of two and three rhythms, in both the Longwise and Square set.
Social workshop, 1 lesson
Scottish ceilidh dancing for everyone
The simplest and most spontaneous that Scottish dancing has to offer. Suitable for everyone, including beginners and non-dancers. Let’s not think for a moment and just dance for a while.
Social workshop, 1 lesson
Irish Ceili Dancing
This workshop will lead you through the basics of Irish ceili dancing. You will learn the basic position, steps and a few dances usable on basically any Irish music concert.
Social workshop, 1 lesson
Forgotten ceili dances
We will become “dance archaelogists“ on this workshop and reconstruct dances rarely seen on the dance floor, for a time nearly forgotten. Come submerge yourself into the lesser know waters of Irish ceili dances and perhaps we will return these dances back to the dance floors.
Social workshop, 1 lesson
Irish and country dance for joy
Come explore the rhythmic world of Irish and country dancing with us without the excessive bouncing! We will learn the basic steps and their principles, with emphasis on correct posture, optimal footwork and breathing. As a result, we will dance through the entire evening with ease and without much panting or strained muscles. We will practice coordination, fine motor skills and spatial orientation. We will also add tips for healthy joints, so that we leave the dance floor with a smile, not with “pancakes” in our armpits!
Social workshop, 1 lesson
Balfolk bar
You will sample one dance of each kind — and then figure out how to mix them together. Balfolk is a colorful thing, put together from dances from all of Europe (and beyond). When you are beginning, it is not really important to know any simple dance — it’s much more useful to be able to handle a dance you don’t know, based on something you already do. Which is precisely what we will be doing.
We will go through four basic dances: one in a couple, one in a chain, one in a circle, and one advancing around the room. Then we will learn how to pick various ingredients from these dances and mix them together into completely new drink… eh… new dances.
DISCLAIMER: We are well aware that each dance has its separate history and traditional technique. However, here we aim to use our hundred minutes to get ready for a balfolk evening. Feel free to study the traditional technique for the next hundred years.
Social workshop, 1 lesson
Chain & round dances of Haute Bretagne
Step beyond the usual an dro, hanter dro and rond de saint vincent and discover some of the quirky dances from the region where Gallo is the language and fun is the law!
Social workshop, 1 lesson
What to do, when…
How to dance with people who are just figuring out their footing? How many spins is just right? What to do when there is no space on the dance floor (and the queue at the bar is too long)? Why do they shout at me to relax my muscles in one seminar, and to engage them in the other one? In this workshop, you will find the answers to all your questions about dance life, the universe, and everything else!
Focus workshop, 1 lesson
Sung dances; or back in the days
When dancers are also musicians themselves, it’s a completely different experience. Come find out what it was like in those days when people were closer to each other, Spotify didn’t exist yet, and the nearest piper just died of the plague three villages away.
We’ll sing in different languages, but in a way that we can learn at our own pace. The only thing you need to know is how to count to ten. Backwards.

A Trip to Bretagne: Breaking bad
So close to Bretagne that you can almost smell the sea salt. Almost. You thought there were rules to it, eh?
Social workshop, 2 lessons

Irish session repertoire
We will learn fundamental sets from Irish music session repertoire of known but not overplayed tunes. Depending on the technical levels of players we will also address rhythm, phrasing, and ornamentation — whatever the participants desire.

Kulning
Are you watching Vikings or listening to the älvdalen Lena Willemark? Then you’ve heard the kulning. Originally, kulning was used to call cows out of the pasture, but it was Edvard Grieg who came up with the idea of using this style of shepherd’s cry in music. Try it for yourself!

Sound Technology for Musicians
What You Needed to Know About Sound Engineering but Were Afraid to Ask This workshop covers everything you need to know about working with a sound engineer to create the best possible concert experience. We’ll discuss what a sound engineer might ask you to do, how to collaborate effectively, and how to avoid common pitfalls. Using practical examples, we’ll go over what information is useful to share with the sound engineer and how to ensure smooth cooperation. You’ll have the opportunity to experiment with a selection of sound equipment, including common microphones with different characteristics, for both instruments and vocals. Feel free to bring your own instruments or vocals to try out. I will also be happy to answer any other questions you might have during the workshop.

Allspel
Allspel is playing together, which can take two forms: classical, in which everyone plays a common repertoire, or one in which melodies are passed on and taught to each other. So, just choose a not too complicated tune and become a “teacher” for a short while,or come to be enriched by the other players.
